Murphy's Pet Project | About Us
About Murphy's:
Murphy's Pet Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping pets stay with their responsible and loving owners. We offer a wide range of assistance to pet owners in need, such as food, shelter, foster care, vaccines and other medical assistance. By assisting pet owners who may otherwise surrender their animals to shelters, Murphy’s Pet Project will decrease the numbers of surrendered pets at local shelters, freeing up shelter dollars for other needs. Murphy’s Pet Project is committed to working in alliance with local shelters, rescue groups and veterinarians to achieve this goal.
How'd we get started? Probably like anyone reading this website, we are animal people. We care about the quality of life of West Michigan pets. With the shelters at capacity, euthanization of perfectly healthy pets has become a daily occurrence. Less than 30% of animals surrendered to shelters will ever be adopted. The Humane Society of Kent County gets absolutely no help from government sources, yet takes in thousands of animals every year needing medical care, housing, and new homes. Not to mention the thousands of phone calls they field needing help of food, shelter, and medical care from owners struggling to keep their pets.
Current Project-We Need Your Help!!
Earlier this year we partnered with Rockford High School to build and deliver dog and cat houses to West Michigan animals in need. These houses are thoroughly insulated against cold and heat, providing a safe shelter for dogs and cats who otherwise may have none. We still have a few houses to distribute. If you or someone you know can use one before the snow flies, please contact us.
The ecomony has put a terrible strain on all of us, including pets. Your donation can help keep a pet warm and alive!
